Our Marines won back to back games in the Sapporo Dome on Friday and Saturday, taking Friday night’s game 4-1, and Saturday’s game 7-3. Here’s a quick recap of each…
Game 1
Seth Greisinger had his best start thus far in 2013 throwing 7 shutout innings, improving his record to 2-1 and lowering his ERA to 4.03. Seth struck out 6, walked none, and surrendered only 5 hits in 107 pitches. Carlos Rosa pitched one inning of relief giving up a run, but is still sporting a very respectable 1.65 ERA. Masuda got his PL leading 22nd save, closing things out in the ninth.
Lotte had 12 hits on the night, stranding 8 runners and having one thrown out at the plate. Iguchi made up for it though with 2 home runs. The first HR came in the first, a solo shot inside the left field foul pole which he absolutely crushed. Clinging to a 2-1 lead in the 9th, Iguchi skied a high fly ball to left, that just made it over the wall for a 2 run shot making the score 4-1 Lotte. This year’s PL All-Star starting second baseman now has 17 homers on the year. Craig Brazell was the only other Marine who could deliver with runners on base, adding a timely pinch hit RBI single with one out and two runners in scoring position in the 6th.
Game 2
Nothing out of the ordinary in this game. Well…except that LOTTE SCORED 3 RUNS ON A WILD PITCH. Yes, you read that correctly. Craig Brazell, Saburo, and Kakunaka all scored in succession on a mis-thrown Hiroshi Kisanuki fork ball. Words can’t really do this justice, so below is a gif of the last two runs coming across. Before the pitch, it was tied 2-2 in the 6th. After the pitch, Lotte had the lead for good at 5-2. The final score was 7-4.
Nishino earned the win, improving to 8-3 on the year. In 5 2/3 innings, he gave up 3 runs and 4 hits. He struck out 1, but walked 3 and got the quick hook after just 83 pitches. Still, a win is a win. Okada (3 for 5), Craig Brazell (3 for 5), Imae (2 for 5) and Nemoto (2 for 5) all had multi-hit games for Chiba. Iguchi and Imae had two RBI apiece, the other 3 runs of course coming on the wild pitch. Craig Brazell is 7 for his first 15 at bats in a Lotte uniform. Niiice.

***UPDATE*** Here’s the video of the 3 run wild pitch:
(Thanks @AarinH2 for the video)
Good stuff! I missed the wild pitch live as I had logged off for a few innings. Awesome. You certainly don’t see that every day.
I wonder if Iguchi is just going to keep hitting all summer? He’s hitting if anything better than he was earlier in the year. His 17 homers are only 2 shy of his Lotte record of 19. His career high of 30 is certainly in reach, too.
And a big WELCOME to Braz! It’s not a coincidence that the team has started to hit better with him in the lineup.
One more comment: Looks like TAMURA got called up yesterday to ichi-gun. He’s our 3rd round pick out of high school from last year, just turned 19.
